Deadly Runaway Van: Man In Court

A delivery van driver, charged with manslaughter over the deaths of a Stoke-on-Trent IT worker and German tourist, struck by a runaway vehicle in the City of London, appeared in court for the first time.

The victims, 24 year-old David Smith, from Alsager, employed by Lloyds TSB and 33 year-old Claudia Kauert, suffered fatal multiple injuries when struck by a white Mercedes van in Pudding Lane, Monument, on April 24.

Larkland May 51, of Hawthorn Road, Upper Edmonton, North London, was sent by City of London Magistrates’ Court to appear at the Old Bailey on March 1.

He is charged with unlawfully killing the two victims, within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court, contrary to Common Law.

He was bailed on conditions he remains resident in the U.K. and notifies police of any international travel.
