Resident Charged With Murdering Nonagenarian

A man has appeared in court, charged with the murder of an elderly fellow care home resident, who died after an alleged assault.

Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command investigated after 93 year-old Eileen Dean was taken to hospital, where she sadly died.

Alexander Rawson, 62, also a resident at the home in Canadian Avenue, Catford appeared in custody at Bexley Magistrates' Court.

Police were called at around 00.40am on Monday, January 4 to a report of an assault at the care home.

Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service.

The deceased's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem examination was performed on January 7 at Greenwich Mortuary.

The same day, Rawson was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a south London police station.

At his court appearance the magistrates sent him in custody to the Old Bailey.
