"Juiced" Hair Stylist Nearly Four Times Drink-Drive Limit

A hair stylist blamed her juice-only diet for being nearly four times the drink-drive limit when she crashed into a car after leaving a pub, a court heard yesterday.

Gaynor Godwin, 41, had to hold onto one of the arresting police officers’ to steady herself as she staggered out of her vehicle, Bromley Magistrates’ Court was told.

She claimed the collision would probably have occurred even if she was sober, blaming the other vehicle for speeding into her path.

Godwin, of Colebrook Rise, Shortlands, Bromley pleaded guilty to driving her white BMW estate, with excess alcohol in her breath, on May 31 in nearby Glassmill Lane.

She had 130 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35.

Prosecutor Maureen Edwards told the court it was late in the evening when police were called to the scene of the collision, which occurred on a bend.

Godwin appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was very unsteady on her feet, explained the prosecutor.

The other driver, who was injured, was removed from their Toyota vehicle and taken to hospital.

Godwin’s speech was slurred and claimed she had no more than two white wine spritzers at a local pub and had been drinking up to 10.40pm.

“The police noted she was: ‘incomprehensible to understand,’ explained Ms Edwards and she was taken into custody.

She said she “felt fine” to drive and could not avoid crashing into the vehicle in front when it veered across her and suddenly braked.

Her lawyer told the court Godwin was on a “juicing diet” for weight loss, which she usually completes at a retreat and had not been eating solid food.

Godwin had panicked after realising she had left behind the cash takings from a hair salon she manages in the pub, the court heard.

She insisted she did not feel drunk at the time and was “shocked” to be involved in an accident.

The single-mum supports her widow mother and told the court via her lawyer that she was “extremely remorseful” and produced character references from her employer and a social worker client.

The magistrates made an interim disqualification order, preventing Godwin from driving, until she returns on bail for sentencing on July 13.

HMO "Black C***" Race Assault Row

Race Assault: Lisa Boni
A drunken HMO resident repeatedly called her neighbour a “black c***” and shoved her against a hallway wall during an ants infestation row, a court heard today.

Lisa Boni, 51, who now lives and works at the White Horse pub, High Street, Beckenham was recorded assaulting and racially abusing the woman.

At Bromley Magistrates Court she pleaded guilty to the racially aggravated assault of Jazmin Beaton at Brandon House, Beckenham Hill Road on August 3, last year.

However, Boni claims she was victimised by her neighbour and was on the receiving end of racist and homophobic abuse that was not caught on camera.

Prosecutor Maureen Edwards told the court Boni returned to the Home of Multiple Occupation at 11pm and according to the victim, appeared drunk.

Earlier that day Ms Beaton had taken photos of the ants infestation around the front door and shared them on the HMO’s WhatsApp social media group.

There was a polite discussion about how to rid the property of the ants and when Boni returned home that evening she asked Ms Beaton for a mop and bucket.

“She became quite rude and aggressive and was heard to say ‘black c***’ on many occasions,” explained the prosecutor.

“Boni was recorded saying: ‘You are the most insulting, disrespectful black c*** I have met in my life.’

“The words ‘black c***’ are used about three times and she also said: ‘I pay rent. You don’t, you black c***.’

“This occurred in the hallway of the communal area and the defendant used her hands to push the complainant in the chest against the wall.

“The complainant felt fear and went back to her room and Boni followed, kicking and banging on the door while shouting a barrage of abuse,” added Ms Edwards.

“She shouted: ‘If you have a backbone come out here and I will knock you out. Go back to where you come from, go back to Peck-nam.’

“Boni specifically said ‘Peck-nam’ instead of ‘Peckham’, comparing the area to Vietnam, due to its reputation for violence and black gang culture.”

When she was questioned by police Boni said Ms Beaton had previously subjected her to racial and homophobic abuse outside and had assaulted her.

She denied using the term ‘Peck-ham’ and insisted she said ‘Peckham’ normally.

The court heard Ms Beaton’s attitude towards Boni changed when she discovered she was gay.

Boni says her former neighbour called her a “white c***”; “a fanny licker” and told her she “needs a black man.”

She maintains she only pushed Ms Beaton because she was “in her face” and cannot believe her choice of words during the row.

Boni has not slept at the HMO since the incident.

The magistrates bailed her until July 14 for a pre-sentence report.

Parcel Thief Imprisoned

A parcel thief, who nicked delivered packages from the communal areas of properties in west London, has been jailed.

Homeless Marcin Piekarski, 41, was identified on CCTV repeatedly prowling the same neighbourhoods, looking for unattended parcels left by delivery drivers.

At Uxbridge Magistrates' Court he pleaded guilty to six counts of burglary and was sentenced to six months imprisonment, plus £128.

Officers from Hounslow Central Neighbourhood Policing Team received information that three parcel had been stolen from communal areas in properties in Selbourne Avenue, Hounslow on December 7, last year.

Linking this to three previous thefts from the same street in November the team conducted numerous CCTV enquiries and identified Piekarski as being the suspect for all offences.

He admitted to being the person who stole the items in his police interview.

Police Constable Dan Cheeseman, the Dedicated Ward Officer for Hounslow Central, said: “Burglary is a concern to our residents and affects many people in different ways especially as the person has entered your property without permission.

Following CCTV enquiries and using our local knowledge we have managed to get a good sentence and given a clear message to criminals wishing to commit this type of crime.”

'Rambo' Knife Joyrider Locked-Up

A moped rider armed with a fearsome 'Rambo' knife crashed as he tried to flee police in west London.

Farah Hassan, 20, of Hillingdon Road, Uxbridge had disguised the moped, which wasn't his, with false number plates and had drugs on him.

He rode erratically as he tried to evade the pursuing officers and crashed while attempting to go the wrong way around a roundabout.

He pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking; possession of a blade; possession of cannabis; driving without insurance and not in accordance with his licence and failing to stop for police.

Uxbridge Magistrates' Court heard two police Sergeant's were on patrol in a marked vehicle on May 4 when they spotted Hassan speeding on the red moped.

Their efforts to stop him on Uxbridge Road failed and they began the pursuit, which ended in the crash.

Hassan threw away the fearsome twelve-inch knife during the chase, but it was recovered and successfully linked to him.

He was sentenced to six months custody, was disqualified from driving for twelve months and fined £128.

Sergeant Eshun of Hillingdon Emergency Response Policing said: “Farah Hassan showed no concern for members of the public as he tried to avoid officers.

He put himself and other road users at risk by riding dangerously and thankfully this incident didn’t end with a serious injury or worse.

Emergency Response officers start every shift not knowing what they will face but tackling knife crime is a key priority and the one recovered will now be destroyed before it can cause any harm.”

Six Months For Aggressive Police Caller

A Derby man's stay at top-security HMP Belmarsh is almost at and end after he was sentenced to six months imprisonment.

Danesh Joshi, 49, has been locked-up since he appeared in custody via videolionk at Croydon Magistrates' Court on March 23.

He was originally charged with making a threat to kill his probation officer, but this was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

However, Joshi, of Portland Street, Cavendish remained remanded in custody on charges relating to his threatening phone calls to Derbyshire Police.

He twice appeared at Inner London Crown Court without a lawyer representing him and was eventually sentenced this week at a Royal Courts of Justice hearing.

Joshi will only have to serve half of the sentence and once his time on remand is deducted, should be released this month.

At his two Inner London Crown Court appearances he claimed he did not know if he was guilty or not, despite previously admitting making the threatening phone calls to his local constabulary.

Joshi also complained of suffering from memory loss and anxiety.

“I am at Belmarsh. I was at Thameside and somebody made an allegation about me that I was going to kill my probation officer, but did not take it forward,” he told the court.

Previous offender Joshi pleaded guilty to making threatening phone calls to Derbyshire Police and persistently making use of a public communication network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety on December 18, last year.

He admitted the offences when he appeared via videolink at Croydon Magistrates Court, where the charge of making threats to kill were dropped.

“I have been suffering from memory loss and it is a complicated situation,” he told Judge Freya Newbery from the dock at the earlier Inner London Crown Court hearing.

“I am also suffering from anxiety and have not had my medication and realistically I don't know if I am guilty or not.”

The court heard the maximum sentence he was facing was two years imprisonment.

“I married an individual who caused problems, blackmailed me and threatened to put me away for a very long time so I could not go to the police,” added Joshi.

“I have been removed from my own home, which is mortgaged and she is still there and I'm in London with life-sentence prisoners giving me bad advice.”

Parking Rage Outside Square Mile Hotel

Wright was sentenced at Westminster Magistrates' Court
A City hotel employee was threatened with having his throat slashed during a late-night parking row over tables and chairs outside the entrance.

Marlan Wright, 34, jumped out of a vehicle at 2am and began clearing away the furniture outside the Apex Hotel London Wall in the heart of the Square Mile.

When he found a note written by hotel staff on the car an hour later he charged at the doors, telling one employee: “I'm going to kill you when I get out,” Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.

Wright, of Silver Birch Close, New Southgate pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour outside the hotel on January 30 and was placed on a twelve-month Community Order, which includes 160 hours community service work.

The court was told Wright made a cutting motion across his throat when threatening the employee, but he challenged some of the details given, telling the District Judge: “Some of the things stated are a lie because there was CCTV.”

Prosecutor Jennifer Gatland said the hotel had placed furniture outside, which prevented parking and Wright arrived in a vehicle at 2am.

He aggressively approached the hotel and member of staff Bartosz Platt and moved the furniture to clear a parking space, added the prosecutor.

“A note was left on the vehicle and when the defendant returned at 3am he charged the hotel doors and tried to gain entry and on the CCTV he can be seen chasing and lunging towards Mr Platt.

“His friend tried to hold him back and the victim feared for his safety.”

Afterwards Mr Platt said the incident made him more anxious at work and at the time he feared for his life, not knowing if the aggressive male was armed with a knife or not.

The hotel locked the doors and police were called.

Wright was identified a couple of months later.

Deputy District Judge Patricia Evans also ordered Wright to pay £50 compensation to the victim, plus £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

“The community service is supposed to be inconvenient, that is the point of it,” the judge told Wright. “When you are doing community service you are not doing other things.

“You will be working for free. It is supposed to be a punishment.”

Deliveroo Pervert Preyed On Lone Females

Deliverrude: Lekhal leaving court
A Deliveroo rider used his moped to travel around London and prey on vulnerable women - exposing and playing with himself outside their bedroom windows - a court heard yesterday.

His victims were left terrified and now fear being home alone or walking the streets late at night and two sisters in their twenties were targeted three times in ten days.

Married father-of-one Billal Lekhal, 26, of Holloway Road, Holloway received a suspended prison sentence and is indefinitely banned from entering the victims’ roads.

He pleaded guilty to exposing himself last year to three different women in Clements Street, Holloway on June 27; Central Hill, Crystal Palace on June 29 and an address in Bromley on July 20.

He also pleaded guilty to three counts of voyeurism for sexual gratification at the two sisters’ address in Mildmay Grove, Dalston, on August 16; August 24 and August 26.

“We have given a great deal of thought to this very, very unpleasant case,” said Bromley magistrate Matthew Lonsdale. “We have heard the victim impact statements, one from a woman who had the immense courage to come to court.

“It would not be overdramatic to say you have ruined five lives and only a custodial sentence is appropriate for what we have heard.”

Prosecutor Sophie Akister told the court the July 20 victim was sleeping alone in her basement flat when she was woken by what she thought was a candle falling over.

“She heard a noise by her window and lifted the blind and there was a man outside. She started screaming in panic and shouted: ‘F*** off, go away.’

“The man did not move and she could see he was masturbating and he said: ‘Get out your t***.’

Lekhal received a suspended sentence
“He scrambled up the wall and through the bushes and made off and the woman could hear a motorbike starting up on her driveway.”

Police took DNA swabs from the windowsill that later linked first-time offender Lekhal to the offence when he was arrested for spying on the two sisters.

The victim told the court: “This was my first home I had to myself and felt secure and safe, but in the space of a few minutes this man has taken that away from me.

“I did not think this horror story would happen in my own home. It is the stuff of nightmares.

“The months since have changed me. I am taking anti-depressants and take anti-anxiety medication with me whenever I leave home.

“I could not live there anymore and moved out in September and night terrors haunt me and I fear for my safety that this man is around.

“He has changed my life entirely.”

Lekhal was also responsible for two similar exposure offences involving lone females.

He was finally arrested when police were called to the home of the two sisters, who had been plagued by Lekhal staring into their bedroom and living-room windows.

He once pushed past both women and fled on his moped when challenged, but returned to peer through a gap in a bedroom blind at one of the sister’s, dressed only in her underwear.

That sister said the repeated incidents left her “tense and anxious” and with an “overwhelming feeling or paranoia” when alone in her own home.

She took four months off work with stress, but had to eventually quit her job because she did not want to travel home late at night and feared anyone walking nearby or riding past on a motorbike.

Her sister said: “I have had serious anxiety due to this incident and the stress has caused significant health concerns.

“I struggle to leave home and cannot arrive home late at night because I am afraid someone is hanging around the house.”

The court previously subjected Lekhal to a Sexual Risk Order that expires in 2024.

“He exposes himself at night at the victims’ home address with a focus on their bedroom, where they may be particularly vulnerable by being asleep or undressed,” added Ms Akister.

Lekhal’s lawyer, who refused to give his name, told the court his client is already under supervision and has not breached the order he is subject to.

“He knows the harm he has done. He is married with a three month-old baby and his wife is in court today,” said the lawyer.

He told the court Lekhal lost his Deliveroo job when the police reported the Sexual risk Order to the company.

“The damage has been done and he blames no-one but himself. He is very sorry and knows one mistake and he will go to prison.”

The magistrates sentenced Lekhal to one year’s imprisonment, suspended for two years and ordered him to complete up to sixty days of a rehabilitation activity requirement.

He must pay £85 costs a £128 victim surcharge and comply with a restraining order prohibiting him from entering the residential roads of his victims.

“We have heard you are of previous good character and the remorse that you have and we are prepared to believe that and you entered early guilty plea,” announced Mr Lonsdale.

“It is far more likely you will get help for your issues outside the prison system.”

Care Home Forger Must Pay £45K Compo

A care home entrepreneur has been ordered to pay £45,000 compensation to a business partner she ran a Harrow residential facility with after admitting forgery.

Abeeda Khan, 54, was a 50% owner of Oakleigh Care Home, based in Oakleigh Road, Hatch End during the period 2012 to 2017.

In 2019 she stood trial at Harrow Crown Court, where she denied defrauding the business, but the jury failed to convict her on the charges.

After over two more years on bail Khan, of St. Mary’s Avenue South, Southall was back at the Crown Court last Friday, where she was finally sentenced.

She pleaded guilty to using a false instrument and was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment, suspended for eighteen months.

Khan was ordered to pay the compensation order within twenty-eight days and must also pay £5,000 costs.

The fraud charges will lie on the file.

During the trial two years ago the court heard Khan treated herself to a Jimmy Choo handbag with Oakleigh Care Home Funds and used the company credit card to make other personal purchases.

She was also employed as the £34,000-a year manager of the 19-bed home, where it was also said she submitted false claims for petty cash.

Khan was questioned three times by the police and always claimed the home’s co-owner consented to and encouraged her actions.

Path Wars: The Sequel - Neighbour Admits Breaching Restraining Order

Ruby Virk leaving Wimbledon Magistrates' Court
A neighbour, involved in a long-running dispute with the next-door couple, has admitted breaching a restraining order by falsely accusing them of being drug-dealers.

However, Ruby Virk, 54, claims her life is being made a misery by the couple, accusing them of excessive noise and smoking cannabis.

She pleaded guilty yesterday to breaching the order on November 3, last year and will return to Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on July 14.

Police were called to her address in Haygreen Close, Kingston-upon-Thames at 4.30pm to deal with a dispute involving Virk’s tenant and door locks being changed.

While the officers were there Virk’s neighbour’s opened their front door to see what was going on, said prosecutor Rose Edwin.

“The tenant said those neighbour’s were in trouble with the police and drug-dealers and he said he had got that information from his landlady, Virk.”

She is subject to a court-imposed restraining order made on November 25, 2020, prohibiting her from contacting her next-door neighbour’s; standing outside her front door; posting items to them and accusing them of being drug-dealers.

“She has informed other parties that there neighbour’s are drug-dealers,” added the prosecutor.

The court heard Virk has four convictions for a total of fourteen criminal offences, mostly of a public order nature.

The male half of the couple detailed the problems living next-door to Virk in his victim impact statement.

Dispute: Haygreen Close

“There has been a financial impact on our lives. We have had to instal an alarm system and installed security cameras.

“We have not slept well over the last three years and are awake at every noise and bang in the night in fear that Ruby is damaging our home or trying to get in again.

“We are in fear of her slander and lies that we are drug-dealers and racist.”

The neighbour said he lost an architecture role due to a stress-induced drop in his work performance.

“We are unable to use our garden or have guests over more than a few times due to the constant harassment.”

One underlying issue is a shared pathway both Virk and her next-door neighbour’s have to use to access their homes.

Virk’s lawyer Catrina Sheehan told the court: “The victim impact statement seems to be highly-exaggerated. This charge is related to just one incident.

“The impact statement relates to many other older incidents.

“The background to this is a long history of a neighbour dispute and she says her life is being made a misery by the couple through noise and the smell of cannabis.

“She has required therapy and treatment for depression.”

Virk told the magistrates: “It was the height of the moment. It was an intense evening.”

Dodgy Drug Deal: Veteran Met Cop Nicked By Fellow-Officers

An off-duty policeman was arrested by his fellow Met officers, who witnessed his dodgy crystal meth deal outside Waterloo station, a court heard yesterday.

Neil Giffard, 50, claimed he had only bought Viagra when the officers caught up with him, but
they found a small amount of the Class A powder.

His twenty-three year career with the Metropolitan Police is now in ruins and Croydon Magistrates Court was told he faces internal disciplinary proceedings and almost certain dismissal.

Giffard, who since being charged has moved into his mother’s home in Brookwood Road, Millbrook, Southampton, pleaded guilty to possessing 2.9 grams of methamphetamine on April 5.

Prosecutor Dwain Coward told the court police were on patrol in their vehicle at 3.40pm outside the busy railway station.

“They were stopped at traffic lights when they noticed the defendant who seemed to be engaged in a drug deal and the officers followed him.

“As they approached the defendant began walking away so they got out of their vehicle and made themselves known to him.

“He did not stop at first and did not believe they were police officers.

“He said he had bought Viagra. He was searched and the officers recovered a bag that contained eight tablets  and a bag containing crystallised powder, the Class A substance.”

First-time offender Giffard was arrested and answered all questions “no comment” during his police interview.

The court heard Giffard had been living in Park Road, Enfield until splitting with his partner and had a desk-bound organisational role following heart problems.

“He is a serving police officer, having joined in 1999 and spending fifteen years with the riot police,” said Chloe Hill, defending.

“He is now organising call-centre staff at three centres and the disciplinary punishment will be far greater than any sentence he receives today.

“It is highly likely he will lose his job, a career that he has worked very hard at.”

In 2019 Giffard learned his heart only functions at 20% capacity and his condition is inoperable.

“He has been seeking medication and that search for effective medication continues.

“He was classed as ‘exceptionally vulnerable’ during the Covid pandemic and his social isolation has been considerable.

“On Boxing Day, 2021 his long-term relationship ended, but he continued to care emotionally and cover the financial strain.

“Mr Giffard says he was not in his right frame of mind and this was a single lapse of judgment when he was at a low point.”

District Judge Devinder Sandhu read eight character references from current and former colleagues of Giffard.

“He is extremely well-respected,” added Ms Hill. “His behaviour that day was completely out of character.”

Giffard has continued working for the Met since his arrest and charge, but that will end with the conviction.

“He will be served with his misconduct papers at the end of today. It will be a fast-tracked procedure,” said the lawyer.

“In these circumstances the assumption is he will lose his job because he has a criminal record.”

Giffard was fined £400, with £85 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

“I give you credit for pleading guilty to the offence,” Judge Sandu told him. “You have lost your impeccable character and the impact on your career is not completely clear.

“There was an element of planning. You had communicated with whoever gave you the drugs so I cannot accept it was a moment of madness.

“How it is that you came to know who to contact to get these drugs is a concern that the court has.

“Over the last couple of years you have had a lot going on in your life, which you say led to you doing what you did.”

Commenting on Giffard’s serious heart condition the judge added: It calls into question even more your decision to obtain these drugs.”

No Joke: Ex-Heavyweight Champ David Haye Accused Of Comedy Gig Assault

Haye leaving Westminster Magistrates' Court
Former world heavyweight boxing champ David Haye appeared in court yesterday, accused of throttling a fellow audience member at a comedy show while shouting: “One more word and I’m going to kill you.”

Haye, former holder of the WBA belt, is said to have leapt over a seat to confront the man at comic Paul Chowdhry’s stand-up gig at the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo, last year.

The 41 year-old appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates Court, having been arrested on a warrant at Heathrow Airport the day before.

He pleaded not guilty to one count of assaulting Nickesh Jhala on October 30, 2021 and was bailed to return to the same court for trial on September 9.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service summary the six foot three ex-boxer - nicknamed ‘The Hayemaker’ - attended the 8pm show and was seated near the complainant.

It is alleged he jumped over the back of a seat and into the aisle to confront Mr Chowdhry, who says Haye placed his hand on his throat and issued the threat.

A first instance warrant for the arrest of Haye was issued because the cut-off date for charging him with offence of common assault was approaching.

Before fighting at heavyweight Haye was dominant at the lighter Cruiserweight, becoming unified world champion in 2008.

He was ranked the number one Cruiserweight in the world between 2005 and 2007.
