The victim was struck several times and pushed to the floor.
British Transport Police (BTP) have released this image of their suspect.
They are appealing to members of the public to assist them in identifying him.
Just after 4.30pm on Friday, December 13, the member of staff challenged a man walking through the ticket barrier for failing to use a ticket.
The suspected fare evader responded by assaulting the victim.
Officers believe the man in the image may have information which could help with their investigation.
Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 482 of 13 December.
