Royalist Neighbour Sentenced For Union Jack Row

A flag-waving royalist has been sentenced for a King Charles III Union Jack coronation row with her neighbours, who accused her of racism.

Julie Anderson, 56, was arrested the day after she shouted and swore at one of her neighbours for removing her coronation Union Jack bunting from her home, a court heard.

She claims she recorded neighbour Marcia-Elouise Worrell taking down the patriotic display and Anderson could be heard repeatedly shouting: “F*** off, Queen and country, you’re c***s, you f***ing racist c***s, for my Queen for my country, for my King for my Queen.”

She was cleared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court of the racially-aggravated harassment of Mrs Worrell and her daughter Allana Roucou between March 1 and June 12, last year.

She was also cleared of simply harassing Ms Roucou, but was found guilty of harassing Mrs Worrell and was sentenced yesterday.

Anderson, of Strathan Close, Sutherland Grove Estate, Putney received a twelve-month community order, which includes a Probation Service-ordered fifteen days of rehabilitation.

She was also made subject to a restraining order, prohibiting contact with both Marcia-Elouise and Allana and was ordered to pay £314.

After the trial last year Anderson did not show up for her sentencing hearing and a warrant was issued for her arrest, resulting in a fourteen-month delay.

Marcia-Elouise told the trial: “She would shout at me: ‘There’s no black in the Union Jack,’ and it escalated during the Coronation, asking people if they knew how to sing the National Anthem.

“She would sing ‘Morning Has Broken’ a she walked past my house and she would emphasise the words ‘BLACKbird has spoken,’ deliberately.

“She threw her Union Jack bunting into my front garden and it makes me feel she has an issue with anybody that is not white.”

Anderson was arrested on June 11, last year the day after Marcia-Elouise visited her home, where she was recorded on the defendant’s mobile phone reaching up to the Union Jack bunting.

“I felt like she was using those flags to antagonise the community, but I did not pull them down.

“I’d had enough of ‘no black in the Union Jack’ and the flags being in our faces. It was not patriotism it was racism.”

Regarding the flags Marcia-Elouise conceded: “I was saying: ‘Get rid of this.’

“I was fed up of the things that she said to us that were so evil. Just leave us alone.”

She said there were earlier incidents involving Anderson, who she said deliberately walked to her home to harass her family.

Marcia-Elouise said trouble started when she challenged Anderson about her behaviour towards a 17 year-old girl walking her chihuahuas on the close green.

“She was very aggressive towards the girl, calling her a c***, and I said: ‘You can’t shout at her like that.’

“After that she made it an almost daily event to come to my address and shout abuse. 

“She accused me of being a crackhead, a drug-offender, a paedophile and that I am sleeping with her doctor.

“She made statements about my race and my colour and her rants last about ten minutes and I feel she needs help. I did not want it to become a police matter.

“When we were in our front garden she tried to punch my daughter in the back of the head and she tried to bite my face and she then threw a carton of milk.”

Anderson claims she is victimised by her neighbours. “They harass the s*** out of me,” she told the court.

“I love the Royal Family, I’m traditional and I put the flags up every year for the tennis and any royal occasions.

“They call me a racist, but I am not racist. It is our flag, the flag of the UK and it was the coronation.”

Anderson told the magistrates she was harassed by Marcia-Elouise, the day before she was arrested, when the complainant came to her house.

She recorded the confrontation, which was played in court, showing her neighbour reaching up over her front door.

“What is she doing ripping down our beautiful Union Jacks? Flags for our King, our United Kingdom,” she told the trial from the witness box.

“They are racist against our King and Queen.

“I am not a racist. I am allowed to put my flags up and I put them up for the tennis as well.

“They have lied on the stand, but I have been truthful.”

Ms Roucou told the trial Anderson would shout outside the family house at 2am. “She would shout that number forty-five were drug dealers and that we abuse our kids.

“When I asked her to leave us alone she told me to f*** off.

“One day we were in our front garden and Julie approached and I received a blow to the back of my head. 

“My seventeen year-old brother intervened and Julie opened milk or some sort of liquid and threw it over us.

“She would continue to visit the address and shout number forty-five are c***s, that we touch our kids and sell drugs.

“It is awful being awoken by this outside and it instantly puts me on edge and I cannot rest.”

The daughter also confirmed she heard Anderson shout: ‘There’s no black in the Union Jack.’  

“It meant that black people are not part of the UK and it felt really inflammatory. It made me feel I did not belong and that my identity can be used against me.”

The court was played further CCTV from near the complainants’ home, which they say recorded Anderson shouting at 2am: “You’re a crackhead Marcia. Smoking drugs.”

Ms Roucou told the trial: “There is no drug-taking in my household and she is associating black people with drugs. I am not a drug-user.”

The magistrates ruled they had “not seen any evidence of direct comments of a racist nature,” dismissing the racially-aggravated charges.

Outside court Anderson said: “I loved our Queen. It broke my heart when she died because she was like a mother to me as I don’t have a mother.”

Fight On Brighton To Hove Night Train

A train passenger was beaten up on a late-night service and hospitalised after a second man joined in.

British Transport Police (BTP) have released these CCTV images of their two suspects.

They are appealing to the public to assist in identifying them.

The male victim, aged in his twenties, was travelling between Brighton station and Hove station at 11.50pm on Friday, December 13.

He got into an argument with another passenger and a fight broke out.

As the train arrived at Hove, a second man became involved and the fight continued onto the platform.

Paramedics attended and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. 

He has since been discharged.

Officers believe the people in the CCTV images may have information that could help their investigation.

Knifepoint Bike Robbery Bid

Two wannabe knifepoint robbers tried to snatch a cyclist's bike at New Cross railway station.

British Transport Police (BTP) have released these CCTV images of their suspects.

They are requesting the assistance of the public to help identify them.

BTP are treating the investigation as an attempted robbery.

At approximately 10.30pm on Friday, August 23, the victim was travelling on a train heading towards the station when he noticed two males acting suspiciously towards him. 

As he got off the train and attempted to raise his concerns to staff, he was approached by two men, who threatened him with a knife and demanded his bike. 

The victim was able to get to a place of safety with his bike and the men left.
Officers believe the men in the CCTV images may have information that could help their investigation.

Woman Molested On Early-Morning Train

A woman travelling on an early-morning train was molested by a male passenger, who had been staring at her.

The victim was travelling between Lewisham and Kidbrooke railways stations at 8.10am on Saturday, November 16 when she was sexually assaulted.

British Transport Police (BTP) have released this image of their suspect.

They are appealing to members of the public for their assistance in identifying him.

After staring at the victim the man approached the woman as he was leaving the train and sexually assaulted her.

Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information that could help their investigation.

Jailed: Cocaine Dealer Caught In Square Mile

A cocaine dealer, nabbed by City of London Police in the Square Mile has been locked up.

Bernard Gjikolaj, 32, had twenty-two wraps of the Class A drug stuffed inside an ibuprofen box.

At Inner London Crown Court he received twenty-seven months imprisonment for possession, with intent to supply.

Gjikolaj, of Hall Oak Walk, Camden was stopped and searched due to his suspicious behaviour.

That search revealed he was in possession of cocaine, plus £290 cash.

Detective Constable Amy Westall said: “Drugs in London severely impact our communities, drive violence and organised crime and can lead to vulnerable people being exploited.

“City of London Police is committed to catching those who deal drugs in the Square Mile to bring them to justice and make our streets safer.”

Not So Special: Ex-Volunteer Cop Sentenced For "Obscene" Videos

A sacked police civilian employee and former Special Constable sent “disgusting and obscene” videos to his Sergeant, a court heard.

Vincent Alan Powder, 57, was caught when an internal Metropolitan Police probe into the Sergeant revealed the images on the officer’s mobile phone.

He fought the charges, but was convicted by a Croydon Crown Court jury on seven counts of possessing extreme pornographic images on or before October 30, 2018.

Powder, who lives with his partner and daughter in Coles Green, Loughton, Essex received a twelve-month community order, which includes 200 hours community service work and was ordered to pay £2,500 costs.

The images Powder sent portrayed sexual acts with animals, including a horse, fish, frog and octopus, plus videos involving women restrained and in one clip deliberately stung with nettles, plus injuries inflicted to intimate parts of the body.

Prosecutor Claire Longevad told the court: “He had an interest in bestiality and in humans being inflicted with pain.

“He was a Special Constable at the time and was sending these to another serving police Sergeant.”

Powder was also a £24,000-a year civilian Metropolitan Police employee and was fired after allegedly causing criminal damage to a photocopier, which he still denies.

“He had an unblemished career in the police force,” said Chandra Sekar, defending. “He is regarded as a helpful community-minded person.”

Powder attempted to extend an expired Contempt of Court Order beyond its term to prevent reporting of his sentencing, but this was rejected by Judge Elizabeth Lowe.

“The acts depicted are real and are disgusting and obscene,” the judge told the first-time offender. “There was either actual physical harm or the risk of physical harm to people.

“Demand for these videos is fuelled by people who watch them and send them on.

“You forwarded this material onto people you believed were interested in such material and you were arrested after a police officer was investigated and your images were found on his phone.”

Around the time of his arrest Powder made deletions to his mobile phone in an attempt to thwart the investigation.

“You are fortunate that you were not charged with perverting the course of justice and if convicted I would have had to send you to prison.”

Powder has lodged an appeal against his conviction.

Cruel Catnapper Who Fought Deportation Sentenced

A cat thief suspected of deliberately coaxing two beloved pets into his car to be cruelly used as dog-fighting bait, has received twenty weeks imprisonment.

Carlos Cyrus, 30, brought kitty treats with him while prowling Surrey in a rented car, looking for pet cats.

He had recently been paroled from his latest custodial sentence for drugs and firearms offences when he brought heartbreak to the pet owners, who have not seen their cats since.

Southall previously pleaded guilty to stealing Tilly, 15, from owner Laura Hunt and Maisie, 17, from Jane McKeown in Chertsey on July 17 and 29.

He told Guildford Crown Court both cats were released at the end of their respective roads, but Surrey Police suspect he used the pets as bait in the illegal world of ferocious dog-fishing. 

Cyrus was convicted of a gang-related killing as a teenager, but successfully fought deportation to his mother’s native Jamaica.

The twenty week sentence will make no difference to his time behind bars because his parole was cancelled and he remains incarcerated at HMP Wandsworth until 2017.

Unfortunately, the court had no power to add a consecutive sentence.

The Crown Prosecution Service submitted an appropriate sentence for the offences is three-and-a-half years imprisonment, given the devastating effect the crimes have had on the cats’ owners and the pets themselves.

Laura’s Ring doorbell footage, which recorded Cyrus petting family cat Tilly outside her home before picking the moggie up and throwing her into his vehicle was vital in tracking him down.

Surrey Police visited several addresses associated with Cyrus and in one found more cat treats, plus suspicious animal antibiotics for wounds and infections.

The court heard Cyrus has convictions for twenty-one offences, including a seven-year sentence for manslaughter when he was twelve years-old.

He also has convictions for robbery and theft.

In April, 2021 he received six years imprisonment for possessing a handgun and drug supply.

He was paroled in March and arrested for the cat thefts after a probation appointment.

Cyrus’ Jamaican mother and Grenadian father had no legal status in this country when Cyrus was born and the Home Office attempted to deport him, but were defeated at the High Court in 2016.

He, his sister and his mother were granted Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK in January, 2005.

Over two years later in December, 2007 London-born Cyrus received eight months youth detention for robbery; attempted robbery; two assaults and aggravated vehicle taking.

In January, 2009 he was convicted of the manslaughter of a rival gang member and received seven years.

He was released in August, 2011, but was twice recalled to custody for breaching parole.

In August, 2015 Cyrus was served with a deportation notice with one reason the Parole Board’s finding that he continued to pose a “high risk of harm to others.”

The following day he appealed, quoting the European Convention of Human Rights.

Waterloo Station Sex Assault: Police Hunt Hoodie

A woman was molested after being followed through Waterloo station.

British Transport Police (BTP) have released this image of their suspect.

Investigating officers are appealing to members of the public for their assistance in identifying him.

At approximately 11.30am on Thursday, November 21 the victim was sexually assaulted by an unidentified male, who tracked her through the busy terminus.

City Police Seized £35K In Drugs During Motorists' Clampdown

City of London Police have seized £35,000 worth of cannabis during a special operation in the Square Mile.

The TITAN team (Targeted Intercept and Tactical ANPR) focused on suspicious vehicles.

While engaged in Operation Drive – a week-long intensive initiative targeting uninsured drivers – officers stopped a 29 year-old driver.

In the boot of the vehicle police discovered 3.5kg of cannabis (pictured).

The male suspect was arrested for possession of the Class B drugs, with intent to supply.

It was also discovered the driver was disqualified for motoring offences and had no insurance for the vehicle.

He was released on conditional bail, pending further enquiries.
