Rugby-Playing Cop "Shellshocked" By Rape Arrest

A rugby-playing police officer, accused of raping a student in his hotel room, told a jury he was “shellshocked” when five arresting officers banged on his door at 2.00am a couple of days later.

Constable Jordan McLean, 26, had just played for the British Police rugby team against Army Rugby Union and he and his teammates headed out for the evening.

Croydon Crown Court heard he met the University of Surrey student in Guildford’s Casino nightclub and the pair took a taxi back to his Holiday Inn room.

“I have been playing it over in my head constantly,” he told the trial. “This has been my life for the last two-and-a-half years and I have not been able to work. I did not do this.

“I did not hold her down, I didn’t use force. I have never been aggressive to anyone, aggressive to a woman in my life.”

McLean, of Silvertonhill Avenue, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape and one count of assault by penetration in the early hours of January 26, 2023.

McLean had flown down to play the fixture in Aldershot - a heavy defeat - and insists the sexual activity with the student was consensual on both sides.

“I was born and raised in Hamilton and I always planned to joined the police. My family were in the police and when I was young I was bullied a lot and wanted to protect and serve.

McLean joined Police Scotland and progressed to the British Police team, which is comprised of the best players from all the forces in the country.

“I’ve played rugby all of my life and this was my second game for the British team.

“At the hotel we dropped our bags and headed out. I had one drink and found out the rest of the boys were at the Casino nightclub,” he told the trial.

“I had seven or eight beers by the end of the night. I’m quite a large fellah and can drink quite a bit as long as it is beer.

“She caught my eye and started speaking to me. She was totally fine and we had a drink together at the bar.

“We hit it off because we are both sporty. She played netball and I played rugby.

“I am not the best dancer so was just moving and we were touching each other and I asked her if she wanted to come back to the Holiday Inn.”

McLean confessed he was in an “on and off” two-year relationship at the time. “There was infidelity on my part. It was not something I was proud of doing, but we were not fully committed.

“When I came back from the toilet she said: ‘Yeah. Let’s go.’ We were kissing in the back of the taxi. Sex, that was the idea of going back to the hotel.”

The young woman earlier told the court six feet three inches-tall McLean held her down on the bed in the hotel room and raped her and then a second time when she returned from the bathroom.

“She was touching me and all over me,” he said from the witness box. “We had a wee kiss in the hotel corridor, you can see it on the CCTV.

“We were chatting and flirting and tried each other’s vapes, the different flavours.

“We were kissing on the bed, side by side and I began taking my shirt off and she helped me.

“She took her trousers off. The top came off, she took her top off.”

McLean told the jury consensual activity followed, including him putting his hand between the student’s legs.

However, the young woman gave a different account. “He was moving his hands down my body and he started to take my trousers down and my shoes, he took them off. I felt frozen.

“He pulled his trousers off and his shirt and he forced himself forward on me.

“All the time I was saying: ‘No’. He could tell I was upset, but he carried on.”

She said she dressed herself, but was raped again.

“He pulled my trousers back down and I just thought: ‘Lay there.’ I just did not feel in the mood, it was with someone I didn’t know.”

Defence lawyer Guy Ladenburg asked her: “What did you think you were going to do in the hotel room? Play a game? Watch a film”

He suggested: “You may have regretted your decision to have a one-night stand, but you went along willingly and freely with what went on in the bedroom.”

McLean, who insists the episode was a consensual one-night stand, says they parted on good terms. “We were talking before she left. I had no idea she didn’t want to be there.”

He was arrested at his home in Scotland two days later.

“I was totally shellshocked when they came to the door. The first thing I heard at two in the morning was banging at the door and five officers there.

“I have never been arrested, never even had a speeding ticket in my life. I was in total shock and was in a cell for ten hours.”

When cross-examined McLean said: “I told her my name. I have no reason to do this, no reason to hurt her.

“I was in a relationship at the time so did not think it was best to exchange numbers.”

Prosecutor Ed Hand suggested: “The prosecution say you have concocted a false consensual account to cover up your forced sexual episode. You just helped yourself.”

Rugby Cop Accused Of Raping Student After GB Police Match

A constable playing for the combined forces British Police rugby team raped a university student in his hotel room, after picking her up in a nightclub, a court heard.

Jordan McLean, 26, an officer with Police Scotland, had flown down to play against Army Rugby Union in Aldershot and members of the team went out for a night in Guildford afterwards.

He met the University of Surrey student in the town’s Casino nightclub and after dancing and kissing the pair jumped into an Uber taxi to McLean’s room at a nearby Holiday Inn.

McLean, of Silvertonhill Avenue, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape and one count of assault by penetration in the early hours of January 26, 2023.

When he was arrested he told police: “There was no exchange of numbers and I considered it a one-night thing and she was fully consensual.”

He admitted the fling was behind the back of his then two-year “on and off” girlfriend, telling the trial: “It is not something I am proud of doing, but we were not fully committed.”

The Croydon Crown Court jury watched a video-recorded interview the woman gave to Surrey Police in which she admitted meeting six-foot three-tall McLean at the club felt “exciting.”

“We had a drink and we were kissing and dancing a bit,” she told the officers, confirming she was happy to share a cab to the defendant’s hotel, arriving in the early hours.

“He was quite persistent and he started to kiss my neck and I was moving away, saying: ‘I don’t want to do this.’

“He was moving his hands down my body and he started to take my trousers down and my shoes, he took them off. I felt frozen.

“He pulled his trousers off and his shirt and he forced himself forward on me,” she told officers, saying the rape occurred on one of the two beds in the room.

“All the time I was saying: ‘No’. He could tell I was upset, but he carried on.”

The woman said McLean touched her between the legs, without consent, before the rape. “By that point I could feel I was in pain.”

Afterwards she went to the room’s ensuite bathroom. “I noticed I was bleeding and I was crying and trying to sort myself out.”

The court heard she dressed herself, but was raped again.

“He pulled my trousers back down and I just thought: ‘Lay there.’ I just did not feel in the mood, it was with someone I didn’t know.”

McLean denies her account and told the court: “At no stage did she give me any inclination, push me away or say no. She was still kissing me and kissing my neck.

“At no point was I intentionally forcing her or holding her down and at no point did she say she did not want to be there or wanted to leave.”

The young woman was cross-examined in court, giving evidence from behind a screen and told the jury she had played netball that day and enjoyed pre-drinks at another student’s home before heading out.

“A few spirits, not a lot really. Possibly wine, I’m not sure,” she told the trial, explaining she went straight to the nightclub with friends, where she met McLean and agreed to return to his hotel.

“It was spur of the moment. I did not have an intention as to what would happen. I did not expect I would have to do something I didn’t want to do.

“I can’t recall exactly what I was thinking and it was only when I was in the room that I felt uncomfortable,” she said.

McLean first put his hand between her legs, she said. “It was happening fast and causing me pain and I did tell him to stop by telling him: ‘No.’

She was shown a photograph of a bruise to her arm and asked how she received it. “I think it was while I was being held down,” dismissing a defence suggestion it could be a netball injury.

The jury were told she sent Snapchat messages to her friend from the room, which included: ‘I feel such a slag’; ‘I wanna kill myself’; ‘I wanna die’ and: “I will need a STD test and a morning-after pill.’

Earlier prosecutor Mr Ed Hand told the jury: “This trial concerns a young woman raped in a hotel room by a man she had only just met.

“They started talking at the bar and were kissing and dancing with each other and he asked to go back to his Holiday Inn and she agreed.

“At the hotel she said that she no longer wanted to stay and wanted to go back to the nightclub and this defendant said something like: ‘Why did you come back here then? What’s the point?’

“He took down her trousers and placed his hand to her chest to hold her down and she tried to push him away and started crying, saying she did not want to have sex,” continued Mr Hand.

“He continued to push her head down more forcefully,” added the prosecutor, telling the jurors the complainant was then raped.

“She went to the bathroom and locked herself inside and got dressed, but the defendant got her back on the bed and raped her again.”

Afterwards, the student contacted her friends and was collected and later informed the police.

“The police took photos of some bruises that she said were caused by this defendant,” added the prosecutor.

“The friend who drove her describes her as being drunk and upset.”

McLean gave a statement to police and said: “I deny the allegation of rape and sexual assault.”

He said the young woman helped him undress in the hotel room by removing his shirt.

“At no point did she ask me to stop. It was all very friendly and convivial.”

Scissors-Wielding OAP Caged For Abusing And Assaulting Two Female Train Passengers

A scissors-wielding octogenarian, who racially abused a female train passenger and kicked another in the ankle because her foot was on a seat, has been locked-up.

John Chapman, 80, terrorised the women onboard a train between East Croydon and Stevenage on August 9, last year.

He was arrested that day, but jumped bail and was tracked down a month later at another train station – again armed with a pair of scissors.

Chapman, who lives in the heart of the West End in St. Martin's Lane, near Leicester Square received fifty weeks imprisonment when he appeared at Northampton Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to one count of racially aggravated harassment; one count of assault and one count of possessing an offensive weapon.

The court heard how Chapman approached the first woman, while holding a pair of scissors and proceeded to racially abuse her.

An hour later on the same train, Chapman shouted at a woman to remove her legs from a seat before kicking her in the ankle.

He was met by police at Stevenage railway station and arrested.

He was found in possession of the scissors used to threaten the first woman.

After failing to answer his bail on November 6, Chapman was spotted by an officer at Wellingborough railway station a month later on December 6 and was arrested and found to be again in possession of scissors.

Sergeant Daniel Starling said: “There is absolutely no place for violent, abusive, intimidating, or racist behaviour on the railway network.

“Chapman acted violently and erratically towards multiple women, so I’m extremely pleased with the result in this case.

“I want to thank the victims for their bravery in coming forward and providing us with the clear evidence we needed to secure Chapman’s conviction.”

Camera Shy?: Ex-Footie BBC Broadcaster Garth Crooks Banned For Speeding

Former footballer turned BBC pundit Garth Crooks was slapped with a six-month driving ban yesterday after being caught speeding again.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker, 67, complained the speed camera that caught him was deliberately hidden, but the magistrates disqualified him anyway.

Stoke-on-Trent-born Crooks, who started his career with his home town club, went onto also play for Manchester United; WBA and Charlton Athletic before embarking on a successful media career.

He pleaded guilty to driving his silver 1.4 litre Mercedes A Class diesel hatchback in excess of 20mph along Camden Road, at the junction of Hillmarton Road, Holloway on January 3.

Crooks, who lives in a £2m detached five-bedroom house in Kingston Hill, Kingston-upon-Thames, represented himself during the short hearing.

Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court heard the camera captured three separate images of Crooks’ vehicle travelling at 24mph.

He already had nine penalty points on his licence for two speeding offences and for failing to comply with a  traffic signal.

Yesterday’s three points triggered the automatic six-month ban for reaching twelve penalty points.

Crooks - who was awarded the OBE in 1999 - told the court he was now “retired” and in receipt of a £118,000 a year pension.

Showing magistrates photographs of the camera that caught him Crooks said: “I have come here today to admit my guilt of driving at twenty-four miles per hour in a twenty mile an hour zone.

“I ask for a little latitude. The speed camera was behind two poles, obliterating my sight lines.

“Had it not been for two strategically positioned poles I would have seen the camera and mediated my speed.

“I ask the court to look at the pictures of the proximity of the posts.”

Bench Chairman D Simms told Crooks: “We have observed the photographs and how the camera is situated, but the speed limit does apply to that road at all times.

“It is not a case that you should modify your speed by seeing the camera. You were speeding and that’s why you are in court today.”

Crooks, who won the FA Cup with Spurs in 1981 and 1982, along with the UEFA Cup in 1984 was fined £666, with £110 costs and ordered to pay a £266 victim surcharge.

“It is the lowest level of seriousness for this offence,” added Mr Simms. “However, you have nine points  on your record and this makes twelve points so you are disqualified from driving for six months for a totting offence.

“The offence of driving while disqualified is taken very seriously and could attract a custodial sentence. Make sure you are free to drive before you get behind the wheel again.”

On seeing the Square Mile News photographer outside, Crooks covered his face with his jacket as he descended the court steps.

Train Passenger Permanently Deafened When Beaten Into Unconsciousness

Thug: Kamau
A train thug mercilessly beat another passenger, who suffered three strokes and is now permanently deafened by the unprovoked attack.

George Kamau, 28, beat and kicked the victim into unconsciousness before grabbing another passenger's walking crutch and using it to continue reigning blows down on the man.

At Inner London Crown Court he pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm on the victim at Enfield station on Saturday, March 2, last year.

Kamau, of Bluebell Avenue, Manor Park received an indefinite hospital order under the Mental Health Act.

Kamau was on a stationary train at the north London station when he saw the victim – a complete stranger - attempt to board the service.

He suddenly, in a completely unprovoked attack, started beating the stranger, kicking him several times to his head and causing him to collapse unconscious to the ground.

Other passengers who witnessed the attack rushed to the victim’s aid in a bid to protect him from Kamau’s blows.

One woman who attempted to help the man was approached by Kamau, who snatched her crutch from her and used it continue the vicious attack.

The victim was left covered in blood with his legs under the train while Kamau walked away, before returning to the train and taking a seat.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called and arrested Kamau at the scene.

The victim was hospitalised with life threatening injuries and suffered three strokes following the attack.

He now has permanent hearing loss in both ears and significant scarring to his face.

Detective Constable Sophie Markham said: “This was a horrific and completely unprovoked attack on an innocent stranger.

“The victim has suffered a really traumatic ordeal and I hope that today’s outcome may in some small way assist with his continued recovery.

“The railway network and the wider community is a safer place now that Kamau is off the streets.”

You're Not Smiling Now: Train Sex Creep Jailed

A train creep, who molested a 15 year-old girl in a “disgusting and brazen sexual assault,” has had the smile wiped off his face with an immediate prison sentence.

Petro Ninichuk, 37, even tried to convince station security the victim was his girlfriend when she reported his attack.

At Inner London Crown Court he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the girl onboard a train travelling towards Sevenoaks, Kent on Sunday, January 27, last year.

Ninichuk, of Station Street, Brighton received nineteen weeks imprisonment and must sign the sex offenders register for seven years.

The court heard the victim was walking through the train with her friend when Ninichuk grabbed her hand and pulled her to sit on the seat in front of him.

She told him she was only 15-years-old in the hope it would stop his advances, but Ninichuk was non-deterred and sexually assaulted her in a prolonged attack.

The victim’s friend approached another passenger who intervened and invited the girls to sit with him.

When the train reached Sevenoaks the victim’s friend alerted security staff who identified Ninichuk on the train.

While he was with security staff Ninichuk spotted the victim who had been taken to safety in the station office and was trying to get near her, telling them: “That’s my girlfriend.”

Staff called British Transport Police, who arrived and arrested him immediately.

Detective Sergeant Richard Osbourne said: “This was a truly disgusting and brazen sexual assault on a teenage girl, by a predator who knew full well she was just fifteen years of age and chose to subject her to this prolonged attack.

“I’d like to pay particular praise to the victim and her friend for reporting it to station staff at the time which enabled us to act quickly, and also to the bystander who intervened at the time of the assault to remove them from the situation.”
