The victim was travelling from Liverpool Street station at 7pm on Tuesday, May 11 when a man sat next to her.
The unknown male began engaging in conversation, which the woman ignored.
The British Transport Police (BTP) have released this image as they continue trying to identify their suspect.
The man assaulted the woman and followed her off the train at Goodmayes station.
She escaped him to find a member of staff at the station.
The man then boarded a southbound train.
