Jailed: Sexual Predator Who Preyed On Unconscious Bar Woman

A late-night sexual predator, who exploited a woman who had passed out in a City of London bar, is starting a six-and-a-half year prison sentence.

Rizwan Afzal, 52, tried to rape the unconscious victim at the closed venue in the early hours, but his depraved actions were caught on CCTV.

He pleaded guilty to attempted rape; sexual assault and attempting to cause the woman to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

City of London Police received a complaint from the victim on April 9 that she had been subjected to a series of sexual assaults on February 27.

Officers obtained CCTV footage, which revealed the extent of the sexual violence carried out by Afzal.

He was traced from information linked to a mobile phone number given to the investigating officers and arrested on April 24.

Detective Constable Olivia Hall, of the Public Protection Unit at the City of London Police, said: “I would like to praise the bravery and courage shown by the victim in reporting to the police and throughout the investigation.

“We are committed in tackling violence against women and girls, and we take all reports of rape and sexual assault seriously and encourage victims to report their experience to police, no matter the length of time that has passed.

“We will believe you, listen and support you throughout every step of the investigation and do everything we can to bring the offender to justice.”
