Exposed: Ex-Teacher's Sordid Stockroom Sex Act With Schoolgirl

An English teacher, who enjoyed a public affair with a 16 year-old schoolgirl he had sexual activity with in a stockroom cupboard, received a suspended prison sentence yesterday.

David Howard, 47, wooed the teenager with a Valentine’s Day card and letter, expressing he was “becoming besotted” with her and received oral sex from the girl at the school.

He joked with her they may be caught by the cleaner when they secretly met in the cupboard for a five to ten minute “one off”, Woolwich Crown Court was told.

Married father-of-one Howard, of 8 Sun Street, Lewes pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in sexual activity, while in a position of trust between February 13 and June 29, 2002.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for eighteen months, plus thirty days of a Probation Service-ordered rehabilitation activity requirement and must sign the sex offenders register for seven years.

The court heard then-single Howard was in his first teaching job at Crown Woods School, Eltham - since renamed Leigh Stationers Academy - and was only twenty-four years-old.

He was seen in the company of the girl, still wearing her uniform, in the Blackheath area and she reported him to the Deputy Headmaster and another teacher at the time, but nothing happened.

Prosecutor Matthew Dalton said the now 38 year-old victim first reported Howard - who quit teaching for the legal profession - in 2021 and gave a video-recorded statement to police on August 27.

“I received a Valentine’s Day card when I was sixteen years-old,” she told officers.

The card was posted to her family home and was followed by a hand-written A4 letter in which Howard wrote: “I fear I have become besotted by you.”

“The author was her English teacher, who also got on the same train as her when she travelled to school,” said Mr Dalton. “They also spent time together outside school.”

The victim told police: “I gave him a blow job in the stock cupboard, which was at the end of the corridor, on the top floor near the English room.”

Howard sent her further cards, letters, mini-discs and books, including a paperback by notorious sexual libertine Marquis de Sade.

She spent so long on the house phone with Howard her mother asked: “Who are all these calls to,” and said: “That’s the big phone bill.”

The girl also once visited Howard’s flat, but there is no suggestion any sexual activity took place there.

Over ten years later, in 2013 she sent him a letter saying she was now aware he “groomed and abused” her, but Howard did not reply.

Judge Charlotte Welsh told Howard: “You chose to use that girl to make you feel better, which was an extremely cruel thing to do. She was not equipped to deal with your sexual advances.

“It was highly selfish behaviour, a twisted immoral attempt at courtship that was criminal.

“I accept your remorse is genuine, but that is cold comfort to the victim. There is a genuine prospect of rehabilitation and I accept your understanding that what you did was so wrong.”

The victim attended the hearing and read aloud her impact statement, a few metres from Howard. “Predators like him are able to identify vulnerable children like me,” she said.

“The grooming was so powerful that for a decade I was convinced it was a consenting relationship.

“What happened was a badly kept secret. The Deputy Head saw us together, I told another teacher and they did nothing, allowing him to continue to sexually abuse me.”

She quit her own job as a teaching assistant due to the stress of the case and cut herself off from her family and lost a considerable amount of weight.

“I was anxious, agoraphobic, isolated and afraid and fearful in public,” she told the packed courtroom.

“I have nightmares of David Howard chasing and attacking me.

“I have been driven to pour boiling water on my wrists to reduce stress and moved to a home near a railway level crossing, with the intention of ending my life.

“I hope all the teachers feel one tenth of my guilt and shame for not reporting. He told me he was in a relationship with another pupil and I believe he abused others.”

Mr Dalton added: “Howard was flirty with her in the classroom and she describes him as popular and as the “cool teacher” and he would have been twenty-four years-old at the time.

“She says that she had a crush on him and would lie to her parents about where she was when she was with Howard.”

The victim recalled the light-hearted way Howard dealt with the stock cupboard act. “There was a joke about getting caught by the cleaner as it was the end of the school day.”

Howard’s lawyer James Martin told the court his client is now seeing a counsellor, but Judge Welsh noted this only began when he was arrested.

“This was many, many years ago and you are passing sentence on someone who is a different human being,” said the lawyer.

“He is now married with a child and this was his first job and he was immature and teaching children not much younger than himself.

“He accepts it was morally unacceptable and was not aware it was criminal and does not accept that he groomed her.

“What took place in the cupboard was slightly before her exams and it was never a full sexual relationship, just that one off incident in the cupboard as distressing as that may be.

“There were very personal circumstances at the time that I would rather not get into in open court,” said Mr Martin. “He has dealt with a substantial amount of residual guilt for what he has done.

“Some time ago he wrote a letter of remorse and apology to the victim and that letter is in the hands of the Crown Prosecution Service and available if she wants to read it.

“He will have to find a new career now and at his age that in itself is a significant punishment. He moved away from the teaching profession to engage in the world of law.”

Judge Welsh told first-time offender Howard: “By its nature it was abusive at all times. You sent her a Valentine’s Day card and told her you were besotted.

“You spent time together outside of the school, not even surreptitiously and others knew what was going on.

“It took her many years to understand that what you did to her was abuse and I cannot give justice as to how it has impacted her life.

“The people who should have stepped in to stop what was going on did nothing and she is still plainly suffering anxiety and clearly not managing it.

“You tell me you saw your involvement as a genuine relationship, but it was a warped view given that she was a schoolgirl and you were a schoolteacher.

“I am told you acknowledge this now and are disgusted by what you did then.”

The Judge ruled Howard’s behaviour did not amount to grooming, adding: “It must have been a stressful environment in a large London comprehensive and you had a crisis of confidence and mental health difficulties.

“You quit teaching as you were unable to cope.”

Late-Night 'Samaritan' Molested Lone Woman Lost In Square Mile

A late-night sexual predator, who molested a woman lost in the City of London, has been sentenced to five years and four months.

Netherlands passport-holder Abdala Aweys, 25, pretended to assist the lone woman, who had stepped off a nightbus near the Bank of England at 4.00am.

At Inner London Crown Court he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting the 36 year-old woman, plus a count of assault by penetration, namely his fingers.

Aweys, of Dante Road, Lambeth struck on on July 21, approaching the slightly confused victim as she travelled home from an evening in Shepherd's Bush.

He ensured he was out of sight of potential witnesses and pushed the victim against a wall, forced his tongue into her mouth and pushed his fingers into her vagina, during a twenty-five minute ordeal.

She managed to board a bus and was followed on by Aweys, but managed to get off without him and record him with her phone before calling police.

Reading out her victim impact statement in the courtroom, she said: Ever since the incident that occurred on that fateful night, my life has been completely turned upside down.

Stepping outside my door is not the same anymore, I now find myself being on edge and wary around males, tracking their movements and figuring out ways I can keep myself safe.

I am no longer the happy go lucky person, I used to be and my view on the world has changed significantly.

Due to the incident, I have been isolating myself. I am not as present in social situations. I avoid family gatherings, and I will only partake if I have too.

I won’t participate in anything fun, and I feel I just want to stay at home where I feel safe. As a result of this, it has had a huge impact on my relationships with my family and friends.

He has also taken away my carefree attitude and the fact that I used to always smile at people and now I find I am so suspicious of everyone I see.

I view people differently, my outlook has changed, and I feel quite paranoid, on edge and this is not someone who I ever was before.”

Aweys faked assistance and suggested he could assist her.

When a security guard asked her for a light Aweys walked away and hid in the doorway of a building out of sight of the victim.

When the victim was on her own again, Aweys left his hiding place and followed her.

CCTV showed Aweys catching up with the victim and blocking her from passing in King Edward Street, near St. Paul's Cathedral.

He then pinned her against the wall and carried out his sexual assault while preventing her from leaving and despite her protestations.

She departed the bus he followed her onto at Liverpool Street and during her walk home called the police, around thirty minutes after the attack.

Aweys was identified when he used his bank card to tap onto the bus.

He was arrested on August 7 and confirmed during interview that he had seen the victim on the night and claimed that all contact was consensual.

He denied digitally penetrating the victim and at court initially pleaded not guilty.

Forensic work located Aweys’ DNA on items provided by the victim. On November 8, Aweys changed his plea to guilty.

Detective Constable Raeven Headlam, of City of London Police said: Our thoughts are with the victim and her family.

This has had an immeasurable impact on the victim’s life and her bravery at reporting this despicable crime has meant that a dangerous sexual predator has been taken off the streets.

I am in full admiration of her extraordinary courage and assistance throughout the investigation and prosecution.

Providing samples is invasive and harrowing, but proved vital in proving, without a doubt, what Abdala Aweys did on that night.”

Jailed: Sexual Predator Who Preyed On Unconscious Bar Woman

A late-night sexual predator, who exploited a woman who had passed out in a City of London bar, is starting a six-and-a-half year prison sentence.

Rizwan Afzal, 52, tried to rape the unconscious victim at the closed venue in the early hours, but his depraved actions were caught on CCTV.

He pleaded guilty to attempted rape; sexual assault and attempting to cause the woman to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

City of London Police received a complaint from the victim on April 9 that she had been subjected to a series of sexual assaults on February 27.

Officers obtained CCTV footage, which revealed the extent of the sexual violence carried out by Afzal.

He was traced from information linked to a mobile phone number given to the investigating officers and arrested on April 24.

Detective Constable Olivia Hall, of the Public Protection Unit at the City of London Police, said: I would like to praise the bravery and courage shown by the victim in reporting to the police and throughout the investigation.

We are committed in tackling violence against women and girls, and we take all reports of rape and sexual assault seriously and encourage victims to report their experience to police, no matter the length of time that has passed.

We will believe you, listen and support you throughout every step of the investigation and do everything we can to bring the offender to justice.”

Happy Christmas & High Court Update

Christmas at the High Court
Festive greetings to all our readers.

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

We are now at 2.42 million unique worldwide views, which is not too bad for a modest, unadvertised and unfunded blog.

Some of you know the editor of this blog won a landmark High Court ruling, which is now widely referred to in higher education and journalist training.

A convicted benefits fraudster's complaint regarding the publicising of her conviction and sentencing on this blog was rightly thrown out by Mr Justice Griffiths two years ago.

In his judgement he awarded the editor of Square Mile News thousands of pounds in costs (which has now risen by many more hundreds of pounds).

Pursuit of these costs continue and applications have been made to the High Court, which will result in new debt collection hearings in 2025.

There will also be an application to remove the anonymity order the convicted benefits fraudster enjoyed during proceedings so she can now be properly identified.

Operation TITAN Dethrones Another City of London Drug Dealer

Another City of London drug dealer has been caught by Operation TITAN officers after behaving suspiciously in the Square Mile.

Cocaine, LSD, ecstasy and magic mushrooms with a £6,000 street value were hidden inside the locked centre console of a vehicle.

Andrei Gherghe, 36, of Abbey Street, Plaistow was stopped in Eastcheap by the Targeted Intercept and Tactical ANPR team (TITAN) on October 11.

Officers searched the vehicle he was driving and a police drugs dog indicated something suspicious behind the centre console armrest.

The flooring of the console was hinged with an electromagnetic lock, allowing the flooring to be lifted, creating an ideal hiding place for the drugs.

During the search a lock knife was also discovered.

At Inner London Crown Court Gherghe pleaded guilty to possessing Class A drugs, with intent to supply, and received two years imprisonment.

Detective Constable Emma Martin said: We will do everything we can to disrupt and stop drugs supply in the City of London, which cause so much harm in our communities.

City of London Police officers will proactively target offenders and this sentencing should be a warning to those involved in drug dealing, you will be arrested, charged and sent to prison.”

Gherghe also pleaded guilty to possession of an article with blade or point in a public place, possession of Class B drugs, driving without third party insurance and driving whilst disqualified.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Royalist Neighbour Sentenced For Union Jack Row

Bunting: Julie Anderson
A flag-waving royalist has been sentenced for a King Charles III Union Jack coronation row with her neighbours, who accused her of racism.

Julie Anderson, 56, was arrested the day after she shouted and swore at one of her neighbours for removing her coronation Union Jack bunting from her home, a court heard.

She claims she recorded neighbour Marcia-Elouise Worrell taking down the patriotic display and Anderson could be heard repeatedly shouting: “F*** off, Queen and country, you’re c***s, you f***ing racist c***s, for my Queen for my country, for my King for my Queen.”

She was cleared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court of the racially-aggravated harassment of Mrs Worrell and her daughter Allana Roucou between March 1 and June 12, last year.

She was also cleared of simply harassing Ms Roucou, but was found guilty of harassing Mrs Worrell and was sentenced yesterday.

Anderson, of Strathan Close, Sutherland Grove Estate, Putney received a twelve-month community order, which includes a Probation Service-ordered fifteen days of rehabilitation.

She was also made subject to a restraining order, prohibiting contact with both Marcia-Elouise and Allana and was ordered to pay £314.

After the trial last year Anderson did not show up for her sentencing hearing and a warrant was issued for her arrest, resulting in a fourteen-month delay.

Marcia-Elouise told the trial: “She would shout at me: ‘There’s no black in the Union Jack,’ and it escalated during the Coronation, asking people if they knew how to sing the National Anthem.

“She would sing ‘Morning Has Broken’ a she walked past my house and she would emphasise the words ‘BLACKbird has spoken,’ deliberately.

“She threw her Union Jack bunting into my front garden and it makes me feel she has an issue with anybody that is not white.”

Anderson was arrested on June 11, last year the day after Marcia-Elouise visited her home, where she was recorded on the defendant’s mobile phone reaching up to the Union Jack bunting.

“I felt like she was using those flags to antagonise the community, but I did not pull them down.

“I’d had enough of ‘no black in the Union Jack’ and the flags being in our faces. It was not patriotism it was racism.”

Regarding the flags Marcia-Elouise conceded: “I was saying: ‘Get rid of this.’

Neighbours: Allana (L) & Marcia-Elouise (R)

“I was fed up of the things that she said to us that were so evil. Just leave us alone.”

She said there were earlier incidents involving Anderson, who she said deliberately walked to her home to harass her family.

Marcia-Elouise said trouble started when she challenged Anderson about her behaviour towards a 17 year-old girl walking her chihuahuas on the close green.

“She was very aggressive towards the girl, calling her a c***, and I said: ‘You can’t shout at her like that.’

“After that she made it an almost daily event to come to my address and shout abuse.

“She accused me of being a crackhead, a drug-offender, a paedophile and that I am sleeping with her doctor.

“She made statements about my race and my colour and her rants last about ten minutes and I feel she needs help. I did not want it to become a police matter.

“When we were in our front garden she tried to punch my daughter in the back of the head and she tried to bite my face and she then threw a carton of milk.”

Anderson claims she is victimised by her neighbours. “They harass the s*** out of me,” she told the court.

“I love the Royal Family, I’m traditional and I put the flags up every year for the tennis and any royal occasions.

“They call me a racist, but I am not racist. It is our flag, the flag of the UK and it was the coronation.”

Anderson told the magistrates she was harassed by Marcia-Elouise, the day before she was arrested, when the complainant came to her house.

She recorded the confrontation, which was played in court, showing her neighbour reaching up over her front door.

“What is she doing ripping down our beautiful Union Jacks? Flags for our King, our United Kingdom,” she told the trial from the witness box.

Union Jacks: Doorway Bunting
“They are racist against our King and Queen.

“I am not a racist. I am allowed to put my flags up and I put them up for the tennis as well.

“They have lied on the stand, but I have been truthful.”

Ms Roucou told the trial Anderson would shout outside the family house at 2am. “She would shout that number forty-five were drug dealers and that we abuse our kids.

“When I asked her to leave us alone she told me to f*** off.

“One day we were in our front garden and Julie approached and I received a blow to the back of my head.

“My seventeen year-old brother intervened and Julie opened milk or some sort of liquid and threw it over us.

“She would continue to visit the address and shout number forty-five are c***s, that we touch our kids and sell drugs.

“It is awful being awoken by this outside and it instantly puts me on edge and I cannot rest.”

The daughter also confirmed she heard Anderson shout: ‘There’s no black in the Union Jack.’

“It meant that black people are not part of the UK and it felt really inflammatory. It made me feel I did not belong and that my identity can be used against me.”

The court was played further CCTV from near the complainants’ home, which they say recorded Anderson shouting at 2am: “You’re a crackhead Marcia. Smoking drugs.”

Ms Roucou told the trial: “There is no drug-taking in my household and she is associating black people with drugs. I am not a drug-user.”

The magistrates ruled they had “not seen any evidence of direct comments of a racist nature,” dismissing the racially-aggravated charges.

Outside court Anderson said: “I loved our Queen. It broke my heart when she died because she was like a mother to me as I don’t have a mother.”
