Central Saint Martins |
A serial burglar raided
a top art school of camera equipment to fund his gambling addiction,
a court heard yesterday.
Robert Smith, 33, of
West Lane, Bermondsey was given a prison warning after admitting his
latest offence.
He pleaded guilty to
burgling Central Saint Martins University of the Arts, located in
Granary Square, Kings Cross on May 7, last year.
Blackfriars Crown Court
was told he snatched cameras, lenses and cases during the burglary.
“Smith has a fairly
extensive list of offending, including burglaries,” announced Judge
Alexander Milne QC. “There is a real risk of a custodial sentence
here.”
Smith's lawyer said his
client has a “gambling habit” and was once banned from betting
shops as a condition of a community sentence.
The court heard he has
anxiety and depression and bailed him until March 8 for a
pre-sentence report.
